The Beeble Scale!

Did you know there’s a storm scale for creatures? The Beeble scale is a system created by Mark Rosewater to describe how likely it is for a creature type to return in future Magic sets.

Its silly name comes from these guys, Bouncing Beebles. Beebles only appear on 2 cards from real sets, and they will never return. This makes them a 10 on the Beeble scale, whereas a creature type like human, goblin, or even sphinx are no higher than a 1. Shockingly, ouphe was given a 9 in 2019, even though it appears on cards as recently as 2023 with the Wilds of Eldraine set.

Occasionally, a creature will change beeble scores, either going up or down depending on the trajectory of Magic as a whole. Ouphes were previously thought to be the target of a consolidation of types, likely within the fae genre of creatures, which would naturally make them higher on the score. On the other hand, squirrels have been previously given a score as high as 9–meaning it would require a minor miracle for a return– but nowadays they sit around a 5, which means it’s setting-dependent but you can be optimistic that you’ll see them again! Some creatures given scores of 9 and 10 include Gamer, Minion, and Child.

What kind of card could they even print with those types nowadays? Let me know your ideas below.
