There are a lot of decks that go into the meta and ecosystem of cEDH. But if all you’ve ever played is casual commander, how can you decide for yourself which deck to start with? Well, there are just about as many ways to pick your first deck as there are cards in Magic: the Gathering, but my personal favorite way is by asking (and answering!) a simple question: why do you want to play cEDH? Is it a wincon, a strategy, or a color that sticks out to you? Or is it just a manner of “I want to win–and I want to win fast!” that brings you to the world of competitive commander? Whatever your answer, the insights that can be gained from such a question can help narrow down the perfect deck for your first go at cEDH!
